El Leoncito Observatory was established in 1983 in El Leoncito National Park, in the province of San Juan, an ideal place for observation with nights of deep darkness, without pollution, without clouds 270 to 300 days a year, low humidity. The telescope, 2.15 m in diameter and installed at an altitude of 2,552 m, is used by researchers for several programs: the origin of stars, the chemical evolution of the galaxy, the speed of the galaxy's retreat, the Magellanic Clouds, the closest galaxies to Earth. In the same province, the Félix Aguilar Observatory has discovered several asteroids with its Carlos Cesco astronomical station, located at an altitude of 2,348 m. Dependent on the University of San Juan, it is open to the public.
